
Telefónica Foundation was created by agreement of the General Board of Stockholders on March 17, 1998 , with the objective of defining the social and cultural commitments of the Telefónica Group companies. The Foundation was formally established on July 20 of the same year and was registered in the Spanish Ministry of Education and Culture´s Special Foundations Registry, No. 498.
Since its establishment, Telefónica Foundation has been the primary means for promoting the social and cultural advocacy efforts of the Telefónica Group, which operates in Argentina , Brazil , Chile , Mexico , Peru , Venezuela and Morocco . Even though the Foundation’s advocacy efforts are carried out locally, its focus is global. And while each country’s foundation was established according to the laws of the respective nation, all share a common vision, objectives and work methods.
The action strategy of Telefónica Foundation is developed through various programs whose objective is to incorporate of information and communication technologies in educational settings, strengthening the Information Society now and in future in the countries where Telefónica Group operates.
One of the programs started by Telefónica Foundation is Proniño (Pro-child), an ambitious social action program that aims to eradicate child labor through schooling programs for child workers. FAI Sonora joined this effort in 2006.
This programa pays close personal attention to each child, offering support to families and schools so that child labor does not become an accepted alternative for families, stripping children of their rights.
