The Bicycle Project arises during the 11 th Annual Sponsor Tour in 2005 as an initiative expressed by the group known as “Los Compadres”, whom originally heard from members of the School for Promoters who commented on the difficulties for transportation from their communities to the bigger towns such as Huatabampo (core location) it took long walks of 12 to 20 kilometers in order to get to school due to a lack of proper transportation therefore the most viable option would be the use of a bicycle.
Members of the School for Promoters also did comment that some youth have to walk between 4 and 10 kilometers to get to the nearest secondary school.
An increased interest was shown by the sponsors considering this alternative as a fund deserving project which they want to support, and so they started raising all possible funding in order to run this project.
As for the students, these bikes belong to the community itself in a way that when these youngsters graduate from school they will keep on passing these bikes to the youngest ones.
To this day, a total amount of 29 bicycles have been distributed as shown on the graph below:
