The MORINGA Oleífera , it’s one of the forests’ everlasting species that grows in wild form in the arid and semiarid zones of Asia, Madagascar and Africa. Its taxonomic classification shows that its kind belongs to the family of the Moringáceas, order of the Capparidales magnoleopsida; it is of rapid growth, resistant during droughts and manages to develop from 8 to 10 meters of height, with woody trunks from 8 to 12 inches of thickness and possesses a very powerful system of roots.

In it’s place of origin the Moringa has several industrial uses, as human food and for cattle. It is necessary to emphasize that moringa leaves possess a percentage superior to 25 % of proteins, which doubles the nutrient value of food such as the egg, or the double that of the milk, four times the quantity of vitamin A of the carrots, four times the quantity of calcium of the milk, seven times the quantity of vitamin C of the oranges, three times more potassium than the bananas, significant quantities of iron, phosphorus and other elements. In a study that nowadays realizes the Technological Institute of Sonora, important quantities of vitamin "E" have been found.

The tree of the Moringa, came to Sonora thanks to the international organizations to which FAI Sonora is affiliated, such as, Kellogg's Foundation among others; significant advances have been made in the reproduction, production of seed and industrialization of the foliage for human consumption. Likewise the Foundation has shown a great concern towards the validation of such technologies for the Moringa and the information that has been collected worldwide from researchers GRAIN and The National Institute of Nutrition of India on having established an agreement of collaboration with the ITSON, for support this scientific information.

In this moment fai has 6 hectares of land with 6,000 plants of moringa to be spread in the southern state of Sonora for the consumption of families living in isolated areas.
