The Fundación de Apoyo Infantil Sonora (Children’s Support Foundation of Sonora) implements its current intervention and community impact plans in 6 municipalities in the state of Sonora . FAI develops these plans according to the conditions in each place and according to the primary needs identified by community members.
Municipality of Cajeme
We currently work in two suburban colonies, Severo Girón and Beltrones, where we’ve served 1,334 children between the ages of 3 and 12, 1,098 teenagers, and 70 adults.
Our workshops focus on the acquisition of practical, preventive measures related to gender rights and equality. Our children´s workshops include: Self-Esteem, Friendship & Respect, Campaigns for Community Health & Cleanliness, Nutrition, Measuring Weight & Height, Sexuality, Accident Prevention, The Four Seasons, Means of Transportation. For teenagers, workshops include: Citizenship, Antisocial Behaviors (Friendship & Brotherhood), Handicrafts & Card-Making, Sexuality, Identity & Motivation, Guitar Workshop, and Movie Club.

Municipality of Bacum
In this municipality, we work in 3 indigenous Yaqui communities, Loma de Bacum, Bataconcica, and El Conti. 254 children, 60 teenagers and 60 adults have participated in our programs. For children, program topics include: Identity & Organization, Physical Education, Addiction Prevention, Rescuing Traditions, Story-telling, Language Revitalization Workshops, Values, Health, Nutrition, Water Care, Diarrhea & Dehydration Prevention, Sexual Abuse Prevention. And for teenagers: Nutrition, Training & Planting of Backyard Gardens and Composting Methods, Training & Prevention of Degenerative Diseases (hypertension, diabetes mellitas, cancer and gastrointestinal diseases), Embroidery & Decoration of Traditional Dress, Traditional Dance Workshops.

Municipality of Navojoa
Our work in this municipality includes 7 communities: Guadalupe de Juárez, San José Guayparín, Jostahueca, Etchohuaquila, ElSifón, Santa María del Buaraje,and Ejido Joaquín Amaro. Our team of Community Promoters worked with a total of 444 children, 128 teenagers and 149 adults, organizing workshops such as: Nutrition, Measuring Weight & Height of Children with Malnutrition, Mask-making, Community Health Campaigns, Children’s Rights, Handicrafts, Values: Friendship & Love, Rescuing Traditions, Clean Community Campaigns, Severe Respiratory Diseases, Severe Diarrheic Diseases.
Our work with adults in this municipality has included training, support and installation of 102 backyard gardens as a sustainable alternative that improves family nutrition. Women’s participation in the Community Promoters’ School also stands out as a major accomplishment in the development of local human resources. These women become the main facilitators for the education and training that takes place in our workshops for young people. They have become invaluable in the development and organization of community impact projects that include the largest possible number of community members and strengthen processes of committee representation and community action. |

Municipality of Etchojoa
We serve 11 communities in this municipality: Buaysiacobe, El Chichivo, Col. Soto, Sebampo, El Chori, La Bocana, El Huitchaca, El Rodeo, Las Guayabas, Sahuaral, and Villa Tres Cruces. Our work has reached a total of 574 children, 50 teenagers and 91 adults. The workshops for children ages 6-12 stand out, with themes such as: Children’s Rights, Creativity & Expression, Follow-up in Cases of School Desertion , Health Campaigns (supporting vaccination week), Values, Reforestation, Hygiene, Mask-making, Handicrafts, Weight & Height Measurement, Nutrition, Caring for the Environment, Organization & Identity, Pollution, Drug Addiction & Alcoholism.
This municipality also stands out for the participation of women in the School For Promoters , Committees for Community Participation & Action, as well as in the organization and implementation of community impact projects. Families have also become involved in the training for and planting of small backyard gardens, which contribute not only to the improvement of the economy, but also to the daily diets of these families, which currently number 103.

Municipality of Huatabampo
Our service to this municipality includes the following 9 communities: Loma de Etchoropo , Col PRI 90, Moroncarit, Puerto Yavaros, Loma de Moroncarit, La Savila , Cuchilla de Etchoropo, La Escalera, and Mochibampo . We have worked with 286 children, 54 teenagers y 40 adults. Our 2006 workshops included: Nutrition, Measuring Weight & Height, Planting & Tending Backyard Gardens , Children’s Rights, Creativity & Expression, Follow-up in Cases of School Desertion, Health Campaigns, Personal Hygiene, Basic Home Cleanliness, Handicrafts, Physical Education.
This municipality also stands out for the participation of women in the School For Promoters , Committees for Community Participation & Action, as well as in the organization and implementation of community impact projects, developed as part of FAI Sonora’s community intervention plan.
nother important achievement in this community has been the planting of backyard gardens, which not only encourage families to work together, but also contribute to their nutritional and financial improvement. Currently, 135 families have planted gardens.

Municipality of Quiriego
We work in 5 communities in this municipality: Goayjaquia, Bacusa, Batacosa, Tepahui and Quiriego. Community impact in these communities has reached children, adolescents and adults and includes the implementation of alternative food production practices such as planting backyard gardens, today numbering 85.
Currently, a total of 290 children ages 6-12, 135 teenagers and 272 adults have benefited from our support, participating in measures to improve family finances through communal banks that promote a culture of saving and credit.
Our workshops for children and teenagers include the following topics: Prevention of Sexual Abuse, Addiction Prevention, Nutrition, Care & Improvement of the Environment, Personal Hygiene & Community Cleanliness, Creativity & Expression.
